An anonymous local blog is planning a protest today at 6:30 pm in front of Senator Golden’s 7408 Fifth Avenue office.
Not only does Senator Golden vehemently oppose marriage equality, he now wants to TAKE AWAY RIGHTS WE CURRENTLY HAVE and stop New York State from recognizing same-sex marriages that were performed outside of New York.
Golden boldly told reporters that the people in his district “don’t give a rat’s ass about social issues.”
Come down and let him know how you feel!!

Sheepshead Bites has an excellent summary:
In recent years Albany has been stealing increasing amounts of dedicated transit funding to help balance its ever-increasing budget deficit. In 2010, Albany redirected $143 million in MTA money to the general fund. This reduction in transit funding was the primary impetus for last year’s severe service cutbacks. This year, Governor Cuomo removed an additional $200 million in operating funds from the MTA’s operating budget, shifting $100 to its capital budget which has a $10 billion gap.
This problem is not unique to New York State. In California voters recent passed Proposition 22 to protect transit funds.
To assure this does not continue every time Albany is short of cash, necessitating additional service cuts and fare increases, State Senator Martin Golden and Assemblyman James Brennan proposed a new law last week called the Transit Funding Lockbox Act.

Marty Golden represents part of Midwood, and paints an unflattering portrait of us:
Local voters “don’t really give a rat’s ass about social issues,” Golden said. The state senator apparently figures that gives him carte blanche to waste the legislative body’s time pushing hateful legislation to eliminate rights and marginalize our gay neighbors, family and friends.

Full map of District 22, which Golden represents. It’s a rather oddly shaped district, isn’t it?
