Live Bands at the Kent

Friday, May 13th, 2011

It looks like the Kent Theater (1170 Coney Island Ave near Avenue H) is trying to branch out into something new: This Saturday, local band Solmenta will be playing at the movie house at 10pm.

It’s an all-ages show, and for the $10 admission you can see a movie for free before they play (showing at 8pm are Fast Five, Thor 3D, and Jumping the Broom).

Maybe I’d rather see the theater do a little renovation to remake itself, but adding live music is a pretty cool idea. It’ll be interesting to see where this goes.

Everything Is Illuminated in Russian

Monday, April 4th, 2011

Ben spotted this sign over the weekend for a showing of “Everything is Illuminated.” The movie, about a Jewish American man (Elijah Wood) traveling to the Ukraine to find the woman who saved his grandfather in World War II, will be showing at the Kent in Russian. Cultural whirlwind!
