Supermax: Midwood’s wholesale store
Thursday, January 13th, 2011
Wholesale stores are excellent, if you know your prices and have sufficient storage space (and mouths to feed). The chain wholesale stores, however, are less than ideal for those of us in south/central Brooklyn – they’re trying (at best) by public transportation, have membership fees, which means you have to go often enough to justify it, and, like everything that offers a good deal in NYC, crowded. Thankfully, Midwood now has a much less intense option, Supermax, which requires no fees, is within walking distance, and is currently much less crowded – they opened less than a month ago.
Supermax has a large variety of wholesale foods and condiments. They sell sleeves of 108 slices of various cheeses for less than $14 apiece, 4 packs of 32 oz soy milks for less than $9 apiece, and (bafflingly in January) 48 ice cream cups for $3.12. A lot of the brands are smaller kosher companies, but they do have nationally recognized offerings, such as Ronzoni, Heinz, and Edensoy.

They don’t solely sell food – they do have kitchen items, such as these econo-sized dish detergents, and 25 pie tins for $2.69.

They offer parking, as well, and are situated right under the Ave I stop on the F.
